What is Nail Extension?

Nail Art By White Sugar Beauty World

Nail extensions are a popular cosmetic procedure where artificial tips or overlays are applied to your natural nails to lengthen and enhance their appearance. They are a great way to achieve longer, stronger, and more stylish nails.

Types of Nail Art Extension

Acrylic Nails

Acrylic nails are created by mixing a liquid monomer with a powder polymer to form a paste that is applied to your natural nails and shaped to your desired length and style.

They are durable and long-lasting, but require regular maintenance

Acrylic Nail Application

The process of applying acrylic nails involves the use of a liquid monomer and a powder polymer that, when mixed, create a pliable substance that hardens into a strong protective layer.

Materials Needed:

  • Liquid Monomer
  • Powder Polymer
  • Nail Primer
  • Nail Tips (Optional)
  • Acrylic Brush
  • Buffer and Filer
  • Cuticle Pusher
  • Dappen Dish
  • Top Coat or Sealer

Preparation:

  • Clean the nails thoroughly.
  • Push back and trim the cuticles.
  • Lightly buff the natural nail surface to remove shine.
  • Apply nail primer for better adhesion.
  • Attach nail tips if you’re extending the nails.
  • Blend the tip with the natural nail using a fine buffer
  •

Mixing Acrylic

  • Pour a small amount of liquid monomer into the dappen dish.
  • Dip your acrylic brush into the liquid, then wipe off excess to prevent dripping.
  • Dip the brush into the powder polymer. The liquid will absorb the powder, forming a small bead. Adjust the ratio so the bead is not too dry (crumbly) or too wet (runny). A properly mixed bead has a smooth, dough-like consistency.

Application:

  • Place the acrylic bead near the cuticle area but not touching the skin.
  • Flatten and spread it evenly across the nail surface using the brush. Work quickly, as acrylic hardens as it reacts with air.
  • Continue building the nail in sections, focusing on creating a smooth and even structure with the proper apex for strength.

Shaping and Smoothing:

  • Allow the acrylic to cure completely, typically within 2–5 minutes.
  • File and buff the nail to your desired shape and smoothness.
  • Apply a gel top coat or polish for shine and seal the design.
  • Cure under a UV/LED lamp if using a gel top coat.
